Top marks for the new Stuttgart Trade Fair Centre

INTERVITIS INTERFRUCTA 2010: Success despite a difficult market / Satisfied faces on 615 exhibitors and 36,965 specialist visitors

”Highly professional organisation, plenty of international specialist visitors, Chancellor Angela Merkel herself as guest of honour and a congress programme that the organisers really deserve to be congratulated on!“ – For Yves Bénard, President of the International Organisation for Vine and Wine (OIV) in Paris, INTERVITIS INTERFRUCTA 2010 was a shining example of what a leading international trade fair should be. Valeriu Cotea too, President of the Romanian winegrowing association, had the highest of praise for IVIF 2010: “For us south-east Europeans, this event is an absolute must on the trade fair calendar – people come from all corners of Europe to meet in Stuttgart.” Top marks were also awarded by world-renowned wine producers Mireia Torres from Bodegas Torres S.A. in Spain and Danie de Wet (De Wetshof Estate, South Africa). ”That was a very interesting experience in Stuttgart, I haven't seen such an ambitious congress programme anywhere else“, said Señora Torres. And the South African Chardonnay pioneer de Wet summed it up saying: ”The entire technology programme was a showcase of innovation, held in an impressive trade fair grounds with an airport connection – it doesn't get much better than that!“ IVIF 2010, on 60,000 square metres of hall space, took place for the first time from 24 to 28 March at the new Stuttgart Trade Fair Centre directly beside the airport.

Every fifth specialist visitor from the 36,965 who represented 63 countries came from outside of Germany. They were met with 615 satisfied exhibiting companies from 28 countries who provided information about the latest trends and industry innovation. With these figures, IVIF saw a slight increase for both exhibitors and visitors when compared to the previous event in 2007, despite the difficult economic situation. “INTERVITIS INTERFRUCTA 2010 fully met our expectations“, said Messe Stuttgart Managing Director, Ulrich Kromer. More than 30 percent international exhibitors and 20 percent visitors, he continued, are excellent figures. The largest group of foreign visitors came from Austria, followed by France, Switzerland, Italy, Luxembourg, Romania, Hungary, the Netherlands and Slovenia; further nations represented included China, India, South Africa, Canada, the USA, Chile, Uruguay, Russia and Georgia. There was also a clear increase of visitors, when compared to 2007, for Belgium, Denmark, Poland, Sweden, Slovakia, Slovenia and Spain.

The growing importance of INTERVITIS INTERFRUCTA was certainly made apparent with the presence of German Chancellor Angela Merkel as guest of honour who was there to personally open the event on Wednesday evening and which ensured a prominent political presence was felt over the five days in Stuttgart. The IVIF congress alone attracted 2,600 experts from the areas of winegrowing and fruit cultivation, fruit juice production and distillation to Stuttgart, who attended the presentations of 200 speakers coming from all over the world. According to Dr. Rudolf Nickenig, General Secretary of the German Winegrowers' Association which organised the congress, "this record participation shows that we really chose the right theme with sustainability.“

The high quality of INTERVITIS INTERFRUCTA as a leading international trade fair was also reflected in the reviews from specialist visitors. According to an IVIF survey carried out, a record-breaking 99 percent of visitors would recommend the trade fair to others, while 95 percent described themselves as satisfied to very satisfied with the opportunities to gather information and make contact at the stands – not surprising then that 98 percent intend to return to the trade fair again and 92 percent see IVIF growing in importance or maintaining its current level in the future. Popular areas for the IVIF 2010 visitors included Cultivation and Harvesting Technology (63 percent), Filling and Packaging Technology (34 percent), Processing and Process Control (32 percent) and Marketing and Organisation (25 percent). There was also great feedback received for the machine demonstrations which now take place indoors – more than every third visitor took the opportunity to find out more about the tractors, harvesters and other machines, as well as watch them in action.

According to the survey carried out, two thirds of IVIF specialist visitors are active in the management decisions of their business or company and almost every second plays a decisive role in the investment and procurement decisions – once again evidence of the high quality of visitors attending the event. 71 percent of these visitors came from the winegrowing sector, 19 percent from fruit cultivation and 17 percent from the area of wine and sparkling wine production. More than half of the fruit farmers and the wine/sparkling wine representatives are also active in winegrowing. Every fifth IVIF visitor from the area of fruit cultivation is active in the production of spirits. Also: Two thirds of visitors from the winegrowing sector work in commercial farming, 50 percent of them are self-marketers. The specialist visitors from Germany and abroad have remained loyal to INTERVITIS INTERFRUCTA: more than every second visitor also attended the event in 2007 and 40 percent of visitors came to the event in 2004. Almost one third of all IVIF guests did not visit any other trade fair.

The 615 exhibitors at INTERVITIS INTERFRUCTA 2010, in the wake of the economic crisis, saw the market situation as being generally more difficult than three years ago; 89 percent of them, however, see the new Stuttgart Trade Fair Centre as being the right location for IVIF. The exhibitors appeared to be satisfied with the success of the trade fair. 69 percent of them rated the expertise of the visitors as good or very good. And a particularly pleasing result: For every third IVIF 2010 exhibitor, this year was personally more successful than in 2007.
