SECURITY ESSEN More Successful and International Than Ever Before
Around 42,000 Visitors from 113 Countries
at the Leading Security Fair Anywhere in the World System Solutions Were in the Spotlight
Increased internationality, a high willingness to invest and a strong interest in system solutions characterised
the course of the 19th premier global fair SECURITY at Messe Essen. Around 42,000 visitors obtained
information in a targeted way from the 1,078 exhibitors from 38 nations with regard to everything to do with
products and services for security and fire protection. In this respect, the premier global fair was more
international than ever before: Substantially more visitors than in the previous years travelled to Essen from
abroad. They came from 113 countries. Amongst the exhibitors, the foreign proportion was 46 percent - that
was a new record too. Frank Thorwirth, Chairman and CEO of Messe Essen: "With its results, SECURITY
ESSEN has impressively emphasised its position as the number one in the worldwide security sector.
International contacts and discussions as intensive and efficient as here are not possible anywhere else. The
entire course of the fair was characterised by an exceptionally positive mood."
Sector Looks to the Future with Optimism
The exhibitors praised the increased internationality of the visitors, their high expert quality and their
willingness to invest. Almost 90 percent of the visitors play a crucial role in procurement decisions in their
companies. One in four of the visitors stated that their company intends to spend over Euro 250,000 on
security in the coming year; almost twelve percent intend to invest more than Euro 1 million. This illustrated:
Security remains in demand. All in all, the experts from industry, guarding, the skilled trades and commerce
are looking to the future of their sector with a positive attitude. Over 70 percent of the visitors are convinced
that the economic activity will pick up further.
SECURITY is a Showcase for Innovations
The exhibitors at SECURITY took up topical subjects and presented new developments. For example, the risk
of falsification is reduced by innovations relating to admission control, such as identity checking by
recognising fingerprints and finger veins. HD technology can also be found in video surveillance where it
ensures a higher resolution and a better image quality. Several exhibitors showed solutions for more security
at schools such as specially secured escape doors or loudspeaker systems.
A large number of exhibitors used SECURITY as a stage for the premieres of their new products. Messe Essen
honoured particularly pioneering innovations with the Security Innovation Award. The prize winners included
a fuel cell which produces a low-oxygen protective atmosphere as outgoing air for fire prevention purposes
and a near-infrared system which recognises individual people and their individual admission rights.
SECURITY Shows System Solutions
In many companies, the responsibilities in corporate security are growing together - the responsibilities for the
classical security, the fire protection and the IT security are in one hand. Therefore, more and more system
solutions and an overview of all security subjects are being demanded. This overview was offered by
SECURITY. For instance, there was once again an independent fire protection hall in which exhibitors
presented fire protection solutions in a compact form. There, over 100 companies showed the entire range of
constructional, installation technology and mobile fire protection. In total, more than 230 companies with
solutions for fire protection were represented at SECURITY.
In the 'IT Security' theme park and in the open forums, the specialists dedicated themselves to the ever greater
intermeshing of informatics and security. Here, experts obtained generally comprehensible and
practice-oriented information. Peter Hohl, organiser of the theme park: "If a hacker penetrates into the
computer of a bank from the bank statement printer by cracking open the cylinder lock and connecting his
laptop on the inside, that proves how urgently classical security and IT security must grow together. At this
SECURITY as well, the lectures in the open forums and the exhibitors in the IT Security theme park have
been able to eliminate reservations during good discussions: IT security in Essen, that is IT security for people
who are not computer scientists to get to grips with and to understand." The other subjects in the forums such
as intrusion protection, IP cameras, new locks or the protection of people also aroused great interest amongst
the public.
The Essen Security Innovation Symposium gave its premiere. Two days' long, international experts from the
political, industrial, economic and scientific fields, including Thomas Kutschaty, Minister of Justice of North
Rhine-Westphalia, and Dr. Luigi Rebuffi, CEO of the European Organisation for Security (EOS) industrial
platform, devoted themselves to the challenges in civil security.
Further Growth Expected on the Occasion of the Anniversary Event in 2012
The comprehensive range available at SECURITY met with great approval amongst the trade visitors. Almost
without exception, they showed that they were highly satisfied with their visit to the fair, with the range on
offer and with the internationality of the event. The 20th SECURITY ESSEN will take place on September 25
28, 2012. Even now, 93 percent of the visitors and 94 percent of the exhibitors have already made a definite
